For the past three years, the New Lynn RSA has hosted a Pacific Night with delicious food, music and entertainment in support of Hospice West Auckland. Evo Myatt has been at the heart of this growing fundraiser, which has become a much-loved annual event for the community.

Organised by Evo with support from the New Lynn RSA Multicultural Group, the Pacific Night continues to gain momentum. In 2025, the event sold out and raised an incredible $7,000 for Hospice – a milestone that reflects both the generosity of the community and the enormous effort behind the scenes.

For Evo, supporting Hospice is deeply personal. “This is from my heart. From the bottom of my heart,” she says. “My grandmother was sick in the islands. She didn’t get this kind of Hospice help, and I really wish she had.”

Evo is also inspired by the impact Hospice has across West Auckland. “I hear so many nice things from people about the service you give. I hear how you help their Mums, Dads, sisters… That’s why people come as a group and support this night.”

Every detail of the Pacific Night is meticulously planned and organised. It is always held on the second Saturday in December so people know to save that date, and it has even become a popular option for end-of-year Christmas parties.

Evo is known for her hands-on approach and high standards, especially when it comes to food. “I will never allow us to run out of food,” she laughs. “If we run out of food, we might as well dig a hole in the middle of the floor and all jump in!”

The event’s success is powered by Evo’s extensive network of supporters, generous local businesses, volunteers and her own tireless energy. “My events are hard work,” she says, “but I thank God He gives me the energy.”

With each year, the Pacific Night continues to grow, and Evo has no plans to slow down. “Our plan is to reach $10,000,” she smiles. “That’s my dream.”

Hospice West Auckland is incredibly grateful to Evo, the New Lynn RSA Multicultural Group, and everyone who supports this special night. It’s a wonderful example of turning community spirit into meaningful care for people and families when they need it most.

“This is a Pacific Night fundraising for Hospice, all the profit goes to Hospice,” says Evo. “That’s how it’s going to stay.”
